Movie lover subway art tutorial

Hello again bloggies!  Did you watch the Oscar's last night?  I did, but only because I went to a great Oscar party!  That brings me to the project that I want to share with you.  My best friend hosted the party and she is a HUGE movie lover.  So instead of bringing over a bottle of wine or flowers, I decided to put my new Cricut to use and create a one of a kind gift.  I made her a nice piece of subway art to hang in her movie room.
This project was one of my first with my highly anticipated and long awaited Cricut expression 2.  And let's just say...I'm in love and there are many projects to follow.  I used the word collage cartridge and the kiss cut on black satin vinyl.  For the base I used a scrap of furniture grade plywood (only because I had it lying around already...you could use a canvas).  I painted it with a couple different shades of craft paint to get some depth.  After it dried well I trimmed the edges with black satin ribbon thatI glued in place using the glue gun.

I goofed decided to change the word layout which made this project a little more difficult than it should have been.  I did this for two reasons.  One, I was not aware that I needed a piece of vinyl to transfer the lettering onto my board.  And two, I wanted it to be one of a kind.  (Really, I did!)

If I had the transfer vinyl I could have basically just peeled the backing off and stuck it on...easy, peasy!  But since I did not I had to peel each letter and stick individually all while keeping each letter strait and level!   All I can say is, if you do a subway art project with your Cricut "get the transfer vinyl".  Your life will be much simpler and you won't want to pull your hair out!
